The core principle for choosing 2-way humidity control packs weight is: it depends on the container’s nominal capacity (or internal air volume), not how many cigars you actually put in it. The empty space in a box still needs to be humidified. So even if you only store 10 cigars in a 50-count box, you must size the humidity pack for a 50-count box; otherwise, the humidity will fluctuate early on.
Quick reference table you can follow directly.
By Humidor Capacity (Boveda Official Standard)
Box Capacity:25 Count 60g:1 pack 320g:1 pack
Box Capacity:50 Count 60g:2 pack 320g:1 pack
Box Capacity:75 Count 60g:3 pack 320g:1 pack
Box Capacity:100 Count 60g:4 pack 320g:1 pack
Box Capacity:150 Count 60g:6 pack 320g:2 pack
Box Capacity:200 Count 60g:8 pack 320g:2 pack
Qy Scenario
- Small travel case / portable humidor (3–5 cigars) → 8g, 1 pack per 5 cigars. 8g humidity control packs are too small for long-term fixed storage but are perfect for travel cases, aluminum tubes, or small leather pouches.
- Standard desktop humidor (20–50 cigars) → 60g × 1–2 packs. 1 pack of 60g is enough for around 20 cigars; for 50 cigars, use 2 packs or simply switch to 1 pack of 320g.
- Large boxes / Tupperdors / Coolerdors / Cigar Cabinets (50+ cigars) → Go straight to 320g, using 1 pack per 100 cigars. Use 2 packs for 150–200 cigars, and 3 packs for 250+.
- Tiny spaces (single-tube containers, sample tins) → There are also 4g packs for 4–14g herb/single-cigar scenarios, though these are rarely used in the cigar community.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
⚠️ Poorly sealed boxes require higher capacity. For Tupperdors, acrylic jars, or old wooden boxes with weak seals, size up by about 1.5x the nominal capacity. If you have a professional Spanish cedar humidor with good sealing, stick to the table above.
⚠️ In dry climates, even 320g packs get consumed faster. two way humidity packs work both ways—if the environment is too dry, it will keep releasing moisture. Replace the pack once it feels hard and thin; don't try to stretch its lifespan.
⚠️ A larger 2 way pack does NOT mean higher humidity, just longer life. At the same RH (e.g., 69%), a 60g and a 320g humidity control pack will stabilize at the exact same humidity level. Don’t assume stacking 320g packs will make things wetter.
